This is a proud moment for me as I take on the role of the 30th anniversary president of the Pungudutivu Alumni Association on Canadian soil.
The development of the village and the welfare of the people are the main objectives of our administration. We are constantly striving to bring about sustainable progress in all sectors like education, health, road facilities, water management, environmental protection, youth development etc.
The work of making our village a pioneer village is still ongoing. We will work hard to introduce many more beneficial schemes and fulfill important needs in the future.
The foundation stone of the first phase of the Kalliyaru Dam Project, which has been eagerly awaited by the villagers for many years, was officially laid (23-04-2025) and the initial phase of work is progressing well.
Since this project is operating under the direct supervision of the Government Irrigation Department, it has been decided to carry this project over to next year based on their advice. Due to the lack of favorable weather and the lack of suitable contractors... it has been decided to complete it next year.
We are happy to announce that all the necessary preparations for this project to progress well are being carried out in a planned manner. A large amount of funds have been raised for this project and sent to the village. This effort was carried out successfully entirely with the combined cooperation of our villagers and all the supporting Canadian donors.
We remember that whatever we do as an administration, it will only become sustainable development if it has the support of the people. We consider it our primary duty to lead our island on the path of progress. Development will always be sustained where there is cooperation and social cohesion among the people.
It is well known that our Pungudutivu Alumni Association has been working with dedication towards educational development, social progress and the future development of the young generation. Our greatest strength is that we work together. In the future as well, our association will continue to strengthen various activities such as educational development projects, upgrading school facilities, providing scholarships to students and providing assistance for livelihood development.
Our determination is to make Pungudutivu a pioneering village that future generations can be proud of. Together, we will definitely achieve that.
